Good morning baseball fans! Nothing too significant happened yesterday, but it appears the Blue Jays are no longer interested in retaining David Price after adding J.A. Happ on Friday night, according to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi.
In announcing Friday that they had signed free-agent starter J.A. Happ to a three-year, $36 million contract, the Toronto Blue Jays made a tacit statement about Price.
He’s not coming back.
Cleveland has expressed interest in Shane Victorino, and he could prove to be the ideal temporary outfielder the Indians are seeking.
As a result of losing Lance Lynn to Tommy John surgery, the Cardinals are in pursuit of starting pitching.
Mike Hessman, the career leader in minor league home runs, announced his retirement, according to Baseball America's J.J. Cooper.
First baseman/third baseman Mike Hessman, the U.S. minor league career home run leader with 433 home runs, announced on Twitter on Saturday that he’s retiring to become a coach. The Tweet has since been taken down but in it Hessman said that it was time to trade the bat for a fungo. Hessman did not immediately respond to texts asking which team he will be coaching.
Minnesota is expected to complete a deal with Byung-Ho Park relatively soon, Phil Miller of the Minnesota Star Tribune points out.
Yasiel Puig will be investigated for an incident at a Miami bar Wednesday night.
Puig reportedly got into a fight with a bouncer at the Blue Martini in Miami, after bar staff became involved when Puig allegedly pushed his sister. Miami police say the bouncer claims Puig sucker punched him when staff attempted to break up the altercation.
Boston has a desire to add a top starter after moving Jon Lester. David Price could be the club's new target.
Ivan Nova was out with Tommy John surgery in 2014, but has still pitched well for the Yankees. He is a year away from free agency, which might motivate the Yankees to move him this winter.
Bud Norris signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal to join the Braves next season. He could be a bounce back candidate heading into 2016.
Anthony Recker is heading to the Indians on a minor league deal.
It is never too early to look at next year's free agent class.
