Orioles, Astros, Royals in on Yovani Gallardo

The right-hander could find himself with a new team in the near future.

The Orioles, Astros and Royals are in the mix to sign free-agent right-hander Yovani Gallardo, according to a baseball source. Gallardo may be the next pitcher to sign now that Johnny Cueto is off the board, and more teams are expected to jump in the race for Gallardo in the next few days.

Gallardo is thought to be looking for a 4-year deal on the free-agent market and should have a strong number of suitors after the signings of Cueto, David Price, Zack Greinke and Jordan Zimmermann so far this offseason. Indications during the Winter Meetings were that the Dodgers were not expected to pursue Gallardo, but Cueto signing with the Giants could change Los Angeles' strategy.

The Diamondbacks and Tigers also showed some interest in Cueto before making pitching additions of their own, but are not expected to pursue him at this point.

Gallardo, 29, posted a 13-11 record and 3.42 ERA in 33 starts with the Rangers last season after being acquired from the Brewers last January.
