NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Angels, White Sox, Yankees and Mets are involved in bidding for free-agent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, according to sources involved in the negotiations. Cabrera is expected to make a decision by the end of the Winter Meetings in Nashville.
Cabrera is likely a fallback option for the Mets in case they don't sign Ben Zobrist, who is their top offseason target. The Angels are reportedly working toward a new deal with infielder David Freese, though could still add Cabrera even if that gets done.
The White Sox are one of a few teams in on Brett Lawrie, along with the Indians and Tigers. Chicago is not expected to make a huge splash at this year's Meetings.
Cabrera is coming off a 2015 season in which he hit .265/.315/.430 with 15 home runs for the Rays. He could be in line for a multi-year deal after playing well on a one-year contract last year.
