Mariners acquire Adam Lind from Brewers

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto is sure getting comfortable in his new role with Seattle. It feels that with every day, another Mariners trade goes down. Well today, the Mariners acquired first baseman Adam Lind from the Brewers in exchange for minor league right handers Carlos Herrera, Freddy Peralta and Daniel Missaki, as first reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that the return would consist of all pitchers.

After trading away Mark Trumbo and Logan Morrison, the Mariners had a clear need to bring in a first baseman and they got their man. Lind, 32, is coming off of a strong season with Milwaukee where he batted .277/.360/.460 with 20 home runs. The 32-year-old is also a free agent next winter, meaning this is only a short-term upgrade for Seattle.

The Brewers are bringing back three young arms, none of which ranked in the Mariners' top 30 prospects of MLB.com at the end of the season. Peralta, 19, spent his time in the Rookie-Level pitching to a 4.11 ERA in 57 innings but posted a 67-to-8 K/BB ratio, while being mainly a starter.

Herrera, 18, was signed by the Mariners in July of 2014. He debuted in the Dominican Summer League this past season, posting a 3.26 ERA with 73 punch outs with just 13 walks in 80 innings pitched.

The last piece, Missaki, is a 19-year-old Brazilian-born right-hander who underwent Tommy John surgery back in May. He opened last year in the Class-A Midwest League and looked good in six starts, sporting a 3.41 ERA with a 34-to-5 K/BB ratio in 34.1 innings.

All three of this pieces show that new Brewers general manager David Stearns is willing to restock the farm system and get pieces that are a couple of years away. For the Mariners, this is another sign that Dipoto is continuing to reshape the Mariners for next season, adding another piece for new manager Scott Servais to work with as they try to bring Seattle back to the postseason.
