The New York Mets have started off incredibly hot, and own the National League’s best record at 10-3. Just as they were starting to get on a roll, however, they lost two players to injury. They announced that Jerry Blevins and Travis d'Arnaud will both be transferred to the 15-day DL, forcing the club to dip into their minor league system.
Jerry Blevins out at least 6 weeks
In the 7th inning of a contest against the Miami Marlins, Blevins was hit by a line drive off the bat of Dee Gordon, and was forced to leave the game. Earlier today, the Mets announced that he has a distal radius fracture of his left arm and will need to spend six weeks in a splint. He’ll be placed on the 15-Day DL tomorrow and AAA reliever Hansel Robles will join the team as the corresponding move.
Travis d’Arnaud out at least 3 weeks
While the injury was less severe, losing d’Arnaud is clearly going to affect the Mets more going forward than Blevins’ injury. After getting off to a hot start, hitting .317/.356/.537, d’Arnaud was hit by a pitch, and fractured his fifth metacarpal.

The Mets announced that d’Arnaud will be placed on the 15-Day DL along with Blevins. Barring any setbacks, after three weeks in a splint, d’Arnaud can resume baseball activities, and start a rehab assignment.
To replace d’Arnaud, the Mets have selected the contract of top prospect Kevin Plawecki as his replacement. To clear room for him on the 40-man roster, Zack Wheeler, who had Tommy John surgery earlier this year, was transferred to the 60-Day DL.
So maybe D'Arnaud by Memorial Day and Blevins by Father's Day, after they rehab, play minor league games, etc ...— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) April 20, 2015
The Mets also announced that Black was diagnosed with a small right side disk herniation in his neck that was causing weakness in his triceps. While it was a step in the right direction for the reliever, he is not set to return any time soon, and will be reexamined in one week.
