Original story: A couple days ago, the White Sox made it clear that Jeff Samardzija wasn't a trade option anymore, and with it, seemingly confirmed their stance as buyers in the lead-up to the trade deadline. Their rotation is solid, with Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon, Jose Quintana, and the aforementioned Samardzija; but their offense needs work.

According to fWAR, the White Sox are the worst team in baseball, and desperately need a spark.

Despite the fact that they've scored an average of 7.7 runs over their last eight games, that can't outweigh the fact that they've averaged 3.67 runs per game for the entire season, and it seems likely that they'll make a deal to acquire a bat before the deadline. According to Bob Nightengale, they're aggressively pursuing multiple options, including a recently available Tigers' slugger.

Yoenis Cespedes would be a fantastic addition, and slide nicely into their lineup to pair with Jose Abreu. In 422 plate appearances this season with Detroit, Cespedes has posted a slash line of .289/.320/.497 with an ISO of .209, a wOBA of .349, and a wRC+ of 122.

Detroit is officially a seller, and since the language of Cespedes' contract prevents them from extending him a qualifying offer, there's seemingly no reason to think that he'll be in a Tigers uniform by the time the deadline is over. There are less than 24 hours now before the trades have to be completed through the waiver wire, and there are still a multitude of players available.
