Mets fans want a deal to be official at this point. They thought they had Carlos Gomez, and that didn't happen. The Jay Bruce talks have seemed to fall apart, with the salary and Mets return package being the biggest questions.
That, however, isn't stopping the Mets from using their phones as they now are talking to the Tigers about outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The Mets do have some competition, with the Washington Nationals in the mix as well.
#Mets talking to #Tigers about Cespedes, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. One of their many options.

#Nats could be a possibility for cespedes. mike rizzo loves him. mets also make sense. price tag understandably high.

Once the Tigers decided to become sellers, Cespedes became one of the top priorities to move after David Price. With Price moving north of the border, talks for Cespedes have begun to heat up. He is a free agent at the end of the year and a clause in his contract stops the Tigers from being able to offer him a qualifying offer this winter, which prevent the Tigers from getting back a draft pick.
He has hit .293 with a .323 on-base percentage to go along with 18 homers and 61 RBI's in 102 games this season.
