Cubs acquire Austin Jackson from Mariners

For the second consecutive season, Austin Jackson has been traded, as he'll move from the AL West to the NL Central.

Today is the last day of the August trade deadline, and according to Jon Morosi, there are expected to be some last-minute deals. With the playoff picture clearer in some circumstances, front offices are going to load up one more time to gear up for the final stretch of the regular season. Just a few days ago, the Cubs acquired Fernando Rodney to potentially shore up their bullpen; and today, they acquired Austin Jackson and cash considerations from the Mariners in exchange for a player to be named later and international slot money.

Jackson also drew significant interest from the Rangers and Orioles in recent days, after he cleared revocable trade waivers. He will be a free agent after the season and will likely see significant time in a Cubs' outfield that also includes Dexter Fowler, Kyle Schwarber and Chris Coghlan.

This trade could signal that Jorge Soler isn't close to returning to the active roster. He was placed on the 15-day DL on August 24th with an oblique injury, which can unfortunately take a long time to recover from.
