As September rolls on into October, teams are being systematically eliminated from the MLB postseason. Here is a look at what caused the demise of each team as they are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention:

- Atlanta Braves: New regime gutted team, trading away several key players. Time of death: September 10, 2015
- Cincinnati Reds: Aging team made several moves at the deadline, trading away veterans. Time of death: September 11, 2015
- Colorado Rockies: Gave up the ghost with the Troy Tulowitzki trade. Time of death: September 12, 2015
- Miami Marlins: Key injuries and a managerial change were too much to overcome. Time of death: September 13, 2015
- Milwaukee Brewers: Made wholesale changes, replacing both their manager and general manager. Time of death: September 13, 2015
- San Diego Padres: First-year general manager A.J. Preller went all in and busted. Time of death: September 18, 2015
- Oakland Athletics: Billy Beane unable to work his magic with roster turnover. Time of death: September 18, 2015
- Arizona Diamondbacks: Paul Goldschmidt had another excellent season, but did not have enough help. Time of death: September 20, 2015
- Detroit Tigers: A deadline sell-off led to a general manager change, and ultimately failure in 2015. Time of death: September 26, 2015
- Chicago White Sox: A woeful offense was not enough to support a pair of big-name pitchers at the top of the rotation. Time of death: September 26, 2015
- Seattle Mariners: Nelson Cruz worked out, but Felix Hernandez and the pitching staff did not. Time of death: September 27, 2015
