Red Sox name Sam Kennedy President

Kennedy is set to become the next Boston President.

Boston is not yet done changing its front office. The club announced on Sunday afternoon Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy will officially take over as the club's president on October 16.

In the same announcement, the Red Sox named Larry Lucchino President and CEO Emeritus, and he is still expected to remain an active member of Boston's ownership group.

While Lucchino was notably involved in day to day baseball operations, the same is not expected to be true for Kennedy. The Red Sox hired Dave Dombrowski to serve as their president of baseball operations over the summer and he will likely have most if not total control over the operations department.

The expectation is Kennedy will deal more with the business side, much like Lucchino did. Kennedy was reportedly informed he would have the opportunity to take over for Lucchino in 2012. Since then, he has likely worked closely with Lucchino and is familiar with his new role.
