Rays sign Logan Forsythe to 2-year, $10.25 million extension

The Rays have signed infielder Logan Forsythe to a 2-year, $10.25 million extension, according to major-league sources. The deal includes an $8.5 million club option for a third season, extending Tampa's control over the infielder by one season.

The deal was first reported by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. MLB Daily Dish first reported the possibility of an extension in November.

Forsythe, who turned 29 on Thursday, is in his second season of arbitration eligibility, meaning that the deal will cover his last two arbitration seasons and the option will cover a free-agent season. Forsythe was the Rays' team MVP, posting a .281/.359/.444 line with 17 home runs in 153 games last season.

Forsythe is a lifetime .252/.323/.379 hitter with 35 home runs in five seasons with the Padres (2011-13) and Rays (2014-15). He was traded from San Diego to Tampa Bay after the 2013 season.
