The Pirates have agreed to sign reliever Neftali Feliz to a 1-year, $3.9 million deal, according to a major league source. The deal, which includes performance bonuses that can increase its value to the $4.5 million range, was first reported by Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports.
Feliz, 27, split last season between the Rangers and Tigers, posting a 6.38 ERA in 48 relief appearances after making only 44 appearances over the previous three seasons. He is the third bullpen addition of the offseason for the Pirates, joining Kyle Lobstein and Juan Nicasio in a mix that also includes right-handers Mark Melancon, Jared Hughes, Arquimedes Caminero and Rob Scahill.
Feliz is a veteran of seven major-league seasons with the Rangers (2009-15) and Tigers (2015), and was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2010 with Texas. He is now represented by Ryan Royster and Gregg Van Meter of BTI Sports.
