Atlanta’s third base coach is a candidate to become Colorado’s next manager:
Perez had an 11-year major league career and since retiring has served as the Braves’ bullpen coach and first base coach. He also has experience managing in the Venezuelan Winter League, which could prove to be valuable should he be selected.
Cleveland will exercise Carlos Santana’s club option for next season.

Padres starter Jarred Cosart is set to undergo elbow surgery, the club announced.
It’s seems unlikely that the Pirates extend Gerrit Cole, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
The struggles Cole went through this season could impact — and perhaps hasten — his departure from Pittsburgh.
Arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason, Cole is under team control through the 2019 season. After that, he can bolt via free agency.
