Good morning, baseball fans!
Here’s a roundup of what’s going on in the American League Central.
The Twins have signed Jason Castro for a 3-year deal.
“The Minnesota Twins have agreed to a deal with free agent catcher Jason Castro according to a report from Ken Rosenthal. Jeff Passan confirmed the report, adding that the deal will be worth $24.5 million over three seasons.”
The Rockies are interested in a (precious) CarGo extension.
“The Rockies are interested in discussing a contract extension with outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, Gonzalez told journalist Wilmer Reina in his native Venezuela. The sides do not appear to be in serious discussions about a new deal.
Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.”
Major League Baseball could be headed towards some big trouble. Trouble in the form of another lockout.
“Baseball is, by most measures, an extremely healthy sport. Attendance has been on an upward trajectory for decades, new ballparks keep getting built, television and media deals are continually getting larger, and franchise values are higher than they’ve ever been. It would almost seem laughable to suggest that there could be a work stoppage right now.
Almost.
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the negotiations for the new Collective Bargaining Agreement aren’t going as swimmingly as hoped.”
Vin Scully is the best piece of Americana we as a country have and we must protect him at all costs. He was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and even Obama was a little star struck.
.@POTUS jokes he considered having Vin Scully announce all the Presidential Medals: "Would've been very cool" https://t.co/I3tguBAShF
