NL Central: Cubs decline option on Hammel

While the city of Chicago and Cubs fans around the country are still reeling from the team’s curse crushing World Series victory less than a week ago, not everyone is celebrating. The Cubs have declined the $10M club option for Jason Hammel.


Instead, the Cubbies will pay Hammel’s $2M buyout. The 27-year old RHP is now a free agent, although Theo Epstein hinted at the potential of Hammel returning sometime in the future.
