Well baseball fans, contrary to popular belief, the sun has risen today. Here’s what you need to know happening in the world of contracts and free agents.

Check out your 2016 Golden Glove winners.

Here’s a roundup of what’s going on in the National League West.

The Mets are showing interest in Jose Bautista.

“If Yoenis Cespedes doesn’t return to New York, the Mets might have an alternative lined up. The club has at least discussed signing Jose Bautista this offseason, according to James Wagner of The New York Times.

The Mets made Cespedes a qualifying offer, though it’s unclear whether he will accept it.”

The Yankees have wasted no time in reaching out to Aroldis Chapman.

“Baseball season hasn’t even been over for a week yet, and we’ve already been hit with dozens of free agent rumors. One centers around closer Aroldis Chapman and his former team, Yankees, who have already had preliminary discussions, according to Mark Feinsand of The New York Daily News.

The Yankees parted with Chapman at this year’s trade deadline, giving up the 28-year old in exchange for closer Adam Warren and three prospects, including most notably 19-year old shortstop Gleybler Torres, who is ranked one of baseball’s top prospects.”

The Orioles are looking to use Ian Desmond to fill the team’s Mark Trumbo shaped hole.

“Desmond arrested his downward spiral with a strong 2016, hitting .285/.335/.446 with 22 homers and 21 stolen bases for the Texas Rangers and switching from shortstop to left and center field. He was worth somewhere around three wins above replacement and made the All Star Team for the second time in his career.

While Desmond didn’t grade out well in center defensively, he probably would be good in a corner and his versatility is a major asset. He also has good power from the right-hand side.”

Multiple teams are showing extreme interest in Kendrys Morales.

“The market for free agent designated hitter Kendrys Morales is heating up, as the Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays are all reportedly showing interest in acquiring his services. Even further, the Royals are interested in retaining his services according to Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com.

Meanwhile, the Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays interest comes courtesy of a report from Joel Sherman of the New York Post. According to the report, the Yankees’ interest is incumbent on whether or not they can unload Brian McCann’s contract during the offseason...”
