AL West: Mariners showing interest in Drew Pomeranz

Check out all the things happening in the American League West.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

The Mariners are interested in Red Sox lefty Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz was sent to Boston by the Padres in exchange for prospect Anderson Espinoza. This trade deadline deal set off a chain of events that led to the suspension of San Diego GM A.J. Preller for dealing teams players he knew were hurt. Seattle has long been seeking solid starting pitching and if Pomeranz stays healthy would help bolster their rotation.

Here’s what else is happening in the American League West:

  • While it’s jazzy and exciting, trading a load of prospects for Jose Quintana probably wouldn’t be practical in the long run.
  • A ray of well deserved sunshine for Athletics fans: literally no one wants Sonny Gray.
  • Torii Hunter Jr. has chosen to pursue a baseball career with the Angels over his fifth year playing football at Notre Dame and we wish him luck and would also like to remind him THAT IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT WE’RE ON PUNK’D.

Oakland is considering Edwin Encarnacion, joining a long list of teams who “really like you, but aren’t fully ready to commit”.

  • Seattle is showing interest in Doug Fister, which could suck for those wanting to see Pomeranz in a Mariners jersey.
  • The Rangers are trying everyone, really they are.
