Baltimore is seeking outfield help and is interested in free agent Rajai Davis, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Eduardo Encina.
The Orioles have also considered Angel Pagan, according to Encina, but it seems Davis might have emerged as the club’s priority.
Davis, 36, had a productive 2016 season, batting .249/.306/.388 with 12 home runs and 48 RBIs over 134 games with the Indians. He led the American League with 43 stolen bases and as a result would also add speed to Baltimore’s lineup.
Davis would likely serve as the Orioles’ leadoff hitter, but Baltimore will also have to take his defense into consideration. He played well in left and center field with the Indians but at times has been inconsistent defensively.
Because Davis can play any of the three outfield positions, he could prove to be a versatile option for the Orioles to consider. The market for Davis has yet to completely develop and as a result, the Orioles can consider other alternatives before making a decision.
