Good morning baseball fans!
The Astros signed Carlos Beltran to a one-year deal:
Beltran chose Houston over the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays after drawing some early interest from the Rangers at the outset of free agency. He is the third major offensive addition of the winter for the Astros, who also signed Josh Reddick and acquired Brian McCann in a trade with New York.
Los Angeles and Rich Hill are close to a deal that would keep Hill with the Dodgers next season.
Atlanta and Washington are among the teams pursuing Chris Sale in advance of the Winter Meetings.
The Rockies are interested in Mark Trumbo:
Trumbo’s market has been a bit nebulous to this point, though Colorado makes sense as a natural suitor. His power would play well in Coors Field, and the club is looking for a big bat to replace Mark Reynolds at first base. A major-league source indicates that the Rockies have expressed interest in re-signing Reynolds, though their interest in Trumbo appears they are aiming higher as they try to fill that void.
Houston wants to upgrade its pitching staff and is interested in Chris Archer and Chris Sale.
Detroit is unlikely to trade veteran power hitter Miguel Cabrera:
Cabrera himself talked with a Venezuelan baseball writer, and told him that he would be open to a trade if it was beneficial and fair. Regardless, the Tigers don’t seem inclined to deal their franchise player.
Don’t be shocked if Mark Melancon is signed before Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen:
Sources: Melancon has multiple 4-yr, $60M+ offers: #SFGiants, #Nationals, perhaps one other. SF thought to be strongest, as @jcrasnick said.

Casey McGehee is headed back to Japan:

The Angels added some minor depth:
#Angels sign C Tony Sanchez and LHP John Lamb to minor league deals.

Regardless of who it involves, the Mets seem to be gearing up for a trade:
Whatever Mets do re: Bruce/Grandy, it sounds like they're positioned to move fairly quickly. Could be a very interesting winter meetings.
