Happy Wednesday Winter Meetings Day Three, baseball fans! We’re tired and everything's a blur, but we can’t quit now. Time to cozy up to this hot stove, because boy is it boiling.
Here’s a roundup of what’s going on in the National League Central.
Let’s start with the biggest news, shall we? Just in case you’ve been in a hole for the past 20 hours. The Red Sox have acquired Chris Sale from the White Sox. So many Sox.
“NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Dave Dombrowski has struck again. The Red Sox have agreed to a deal to acquire left-hander Chris Sale from the White Sox for prospects Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com and USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
Sale was undoubtedly the top player available to clubs this winter, and drew strong interest from the Nationals and Braves before being dealt to Boston. He will become the ace of a staff that includes Cy Young winners Rick Porcello and David Price, propelling the Red Sox into strong contention as the favorite in the American League.”
The Rangers have re-signed Carlos Gomez.
“NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The Rangers have agreed to a 1-year, $11.5 million deal with outfielder Carlos Gomez, according to multiple reports. SB Nation first learned that Texas was seriously pursuing Gomez after meeting with him today at the Winter Meetings.
Texas has been linked to multiple center-field options on the trade market, but ultimately decided to retain Gomez after he spent the season’s final 33 games in Arlington. Gomez will return after hitting a solid .284/.362/.543 with eight homers in that span.”
The White Sox are selling everyone not nailed down, apparently. Quintana could be next.
“After losing out on one White Sox pitcher in Chris Sale this morning, the Nationals are showing interest in Jose Quintana, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.”
Both the Mariners and Cleveland are in talks with Mark Trumbo.
“The Mariners and Indians are among the teams in talks with free agent Mark Trumbo, according to MLB.com’s Greg Johns and FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.
Cleveland seems to be conducting a comprehensive search for a right-handed bat, and because Trumbo is a candidate to play at first base and would add power, the Indians might view him as a reasonable option.”
Need a good laugh on this Wednesday morning? Remember that bet LeBron and Dwyane Wade concocted over a certain World Series? Well, LeBron made good on his part and it’s pretty glorious.
