NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The Giants have traded righty Chris Heston to the Mariners for a player to be named later, a source confirmed to SB Nation. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi was first on the news.

The Mariners known to be pursuing Heston all day, and will likely slide him into the No. 5 spot in their rotation. Seattle’s rotation become a priority for the club after they traded Taijuan Walker to Arizona in a major trade last month.

Heston, 28, spent most of the 2016 season in the minors for San Francisco, appearing in only five major-league innings. He posted a serviceable 3.95 ERA in 177.2 innings for the Giants during the 2015 season, so the Mariners likely hope he can regain that form with a change of scenery.
