NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — The Rockies are still interested in free agent Mark Trumbo even after signing Ian Desmond, according to FOX’s Ken Rosenthal.

Trumbo, who is reportedly looking for an $80 million deal, has also been linked to the Orioles, Rangers, Indians and Mariners in recent days, with each club taking a turn in pole position. Seattle’s interest in overblown has been overblown, according to a baseball source, though the M’s cannot be ruled out at this point.

If Colorado signs Trumbo, he will play first base while Desmond shifts to the outfield and the team deals an outfielder elsewhere. Colorado has Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez as potential trade chips, so the club could make major moves to contend now while still being able to re-stock their farm system.

Colorado has never been a major free-agent buyer, but appears aggressive this season after signing Desmond. The club lost their first-round selection (No. 11 overall) in signing Desmond, so the potential addition of Trumbo would only cost a second-round pick.
