Indians sign Craig Stammen to minor-league deal

The Indians have signed reliever Craig Stammen to a minor-league deal, as first reported by Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Rosenthal adds that Stammen will earn $1 million if he makes the major-league roster, with $2 million available in additional incentives.

Stammen is the latest bullpen addition for the Indians this winter, joining Joba Chamberlain, Ross Detwiler, Tom Gorzelanny, Joe Thatcher and Dan Otero in the mix of relievers to sign with Cleveland. Stammen was non-tendered by the Nationals in December and will compete for a spot in the Indians' bullpen during spring training.

Stammen, 31, has spent his entire major-league career with Washington, posting a 26-24 record and 3.91 ERA in 229 appearances (38 starts) in seven seasons. He made only five appearances last season before being sidelined due to a torn right flexor tendon, making him a candidate for a minor-league deal this winter in an attempt to restore value.
