Braves add Eric O'Flaherty

The veteran lefty heads back to Atlanta.

Atlanta acquired veteran lefty Eric O'Flaherty from the Pirates in exchange for cash Sunday morning, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Pittsburgh signed O'Flaherty to a minor league deal in February, likely with the expectation he would compete for a spot in their bullpen. He now heads back to Atlanta, where he had a notable amount of success.

Between 2009 and 2013, O'Flaherty pitched to a 1.99 ERA. He did not have much success last season, though, pitching to an 8.10 ERA and 4.60 FIP over 30.0 innings.

Last season was O'Flaherty's first coming off of Tommy John surgery.

O'Flaherty opened the 2015 campaign with the Athletics but was subsequently traded to the Mets. Over 25 games with Oakland, O'Flaherty's ERA was close to six. He allowed 13 runs over 8.2 innings with the Mets.

It could end up proving to be a low-risk, high-reward deal for Braves, since O'Flaherty struggled last season and the Braves only had to surrender cash.
