NL Central Notes: Bryant injury, Kang close to returning

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant injured his right ankle running the bases yesterday, and was replaced by Javier Baez in the fifth inning.Later Bryant admitted to rolling his ankle, and an MRI is scheduled.

He isn't expected to miss much time, and if he was, the Cubs are very well equipped depth wise, to be able to handle Bryant missing some time.

• Pirates right hander Jared Hughes and infielder Jung Ho Kang made strides in their returns this week, having rehab assignments with Triple-A Indianapolis. Hughes might be ready to join the team soon while Kang is still be evaluated as to how he handles back-to-back activity.
• For the fourth straight time, the Cardinals played an 8:40PM St. Louis time start, and manager Mike Matheny was not happy with this decision. He called the late start on a getaway game "ridiculous."
• The Brewers suffer a blow, placing second baseman Scooter Gennett on the 15-day disabled list with right oblique tightness.
• The numbers on the Reds' bullpen aren't pretty and C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer took a look at all the stats surrounding the pen'.
