Angels acquire Jhoulys Chacin from Braves

The Angels have acquired right-hander Jhoulys Chacin from the Braves in exchange for minor-league lefty Adam McCreery, as first reported by David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Chacin will join the Angels' major-league roster.

Chacin, 28, has made five starts for the Braves this season, going 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 26.2 innings of work. He will immediately slot into the Angels' major-league rotation, grabbing a spot behind Jered Weaver, Hector Santiago, Nick Tropeano and Matt Shoemaker in a group that has been decimated by injuries to Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney, C.J. Wilson and Tyler Skaggs.

Chacin is a veteran of 8 major-league seasons with the Rockies (2009-14), Diamondbacks (2015) and Braves (2016), owning a 41-51 record and 3.82 ERA in 134 career appearances (118 starts).

McCreery, 23, was the Angels' 22nd-round pick in the 2014 draft and has posted a 3.55 ERA in 31 relief appearances in rookie ball over the last two seasons. The southpaw did not rank among the Angels' top 30 prospects, as ranked by MLB.com.
