UPDATE (5/26): Odor's suspension has been reduced to seven games on appeal, according to Heyman. He will begin serving on Friday, and the Rangers will call up infielder Jurickson Profar.

ORIGINAL: Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has been suspended eight games for punching Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista, according to a report from MLB Network's Jon Heyman. He will immediately appeal the suspension, and will also be fined $5,000.

The potential length of Odor's suspension has been heavily debated in recent days, as I wrote about yesterday. Precedent suggested that Odor would receive a ban in the 10-12 game range for connecting on his punch, so today's ruling appears to be on the light side. Michael Barrett received a 10-game suspension for punching A.J. Pierzynski in the face ten years ago, causing many to believe Odor would receive a double-digits ban as well.

In Odor's absence, the Rangers will likely give former top prospect Jurickson Profar a chance at second base. Profar has shifted to second base for Triple-A Round Rock in preparation for a call-up.

The only other known suspension at this point is that of Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, who received a 3-game ban (per Ken Rosenthal) for re-entering the field of play after being ejected. More punishments are sure to be handed down by the end of the afternoon.
