Phillies trade rumors: Philadelphia considering trading Jeremy Hellickson

The Phillies will consider trading right-hander Jeremy Hellickson if the right offer comes along this summer, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. The team also received some interest in starter Charlie Morton before Morton was lost for the season with a torn hamstring.

Rosenthal notes that the Phils will be willing to listen to offers on Hellickson, but may consider keeping him as they try to monitor the innings thrown by younger starters like Aaron Nola, Jerad Eickhoff and Vincent Velasquez. Hellickson is due to become a free agent at the end of the year, meaning the Phillies, despite being early contenders, would be wise to capitalize on his strong start by flipping him for prospects.

Hellickson, 29, is 4-2 with a 3.99 ERA in nine starts for Philadelphia after being traded from the Diamondbacks in November. He will likely draw strong interest from multiple teams looking for rotation help in advance of the August 1 non-waiver trade deadline, and is slated to be one of the top free-agent starters available this winter with Stephen Strasburg already off the market.
