The Miami Marlins find themselves in a unique position, one game back of the Mets in the race for the second National League wild-card spot. Being in a position like that forces ownership to decided whether or not to go for it, especially with the July 31 trade deadline drawing closer and closer.
If they are to push themselves into that contender-ship tier of teams in the NL, CBS Sports’ Jonah Keri thinks they will have to pull a big deal out of their bag of tricks.
More news from around the National League East:
- After a five strike-out game, and the error that allowed the winning run to score, it really doesn’t get much worse for Michael A. Taylor. Where do both the Nationals and their 25-year-old outfielder go from here?
- Push aside all the rumors of a potential Jose Reyes-New York Mets reunion, because behind it just might be their five-tool shortstop of the future in Amed Rosario.
- Scott Coleman of Talking Chop makes the case for the Braves trading Julio Teheran.
- The Phillies might be in line for some good news, with their star from this season, Vince Velasquez, appearing ready to return and take Adam Morgan’s place in the rotation.
