The Angels are in continued talks with 2nd-round draft pick Brandon Marsh and the sides hope to complete a deal before the July 15 signing deadline, Marsh’s adviser, Kevin Adamson of KASE Management, said Wednesday.
Marsh, an outfielder from Buford High School in Georgia, told Halos Heaven’s Brandon Sudge two weeks ago that he would not be signing, and would instead honor his commitment to Kennesaw State University. Marsh’s statement appears to have been premature, potentially as an off-the-cuff reaction to an initial offer from the team.
Marsh was taken with the 60th overall pick, which holds a slot value of $1,073,300. The Angels have signed nine of their top ten picks so far, and have spent $9.1K over the recommended slot values for those picks. In order to keep all of its picks for next season, the Angels must sign Marsh to a deal worth no more than $1,370,225, in order to avoid going 5 percent over its bonus pool.
