AL Central Notes: White Sox aren't done adding, Royals using Merrifield at second base

Chicago acquired veteran starter James Shields from the Padres on Saturday afternoon and it doesn't appear the club is done adding to its roster ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline.

The White Sox do have the financial flexibility and depth necessary to make other moves and it appears they are still discussing other ways to upgrade the roster.

The club is sitting at third place in the American League Central and could be seeking a left-handed bat and relief help, according to 670 The Score's Bruce Levine:

• Kansas City is planning to have Whit Merrifield start the majority of games at second base moving forward. Merrifield has been a utility player for the Royals, who appear set to move on from Omar Infante.
