Nationals select Carter Kieboom with 28th overall pick

With the 28th pick in the 2016 Draft, the Nationals have selected Carter Kieboom from Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia. At ESPN, Keith Law had Kieboom being selected 28th overall, while Baseball America and MLB.com did not have him in their mock drafts prior to the actual draft itself. Kieboom was also ranked 49th in Baseball America's Top 100 Draft Prospects list, while MLB.com Prospect Watch had him at 49th.

Kieboom is primarily a third baseman, though he has played first and caught—he's even pitched. The 6'2", 185 lbs. switch hitter has the potential to be an above-average hitter who can hit for power. He is the first of two consecutive picks for the Nationals, who took Dane Dunning right after him.

Kieboom committed to Clemson University and has an older brother, Spencer, who is a Nationals farmhand and also went to Clemson. His other brother, Trevor, is a redshirted junior at the University of Georgia.
