Oakland has yet to sign Josh Reddick to an extension, which might mean he will be shopped ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline. The Royals are among the teams considering a trade for the veteran outfielder, according to Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle.
The A’s offered Reddick a three-year extension during Spring Training, but Reddick is reportedly seeking a four-year deal.
Kansas City, which ranks 26th in baseball in runs scored, has turned to Brett Eibner and Paulo Orlando in right field. Adding Reddick to an outfield mix featuring Alex Gordon and Lorenzo Cain might help the Royals gain ground in the American League Central.
Reddick has had success with Oakland this season, batting .293/.370/.418 with five home runs and 20 RBIs.
More from around the AL Central:
- Detroit has recently scouted Rich Hill, who is expected to be available. However, the Tigers might not be willing to part with the prospects necessary to get a deal done.
- Eduardo Nunez is Minnesota’s All-Star representative, but he has also been made fun of the last few days.
- Chris Sale threw only seven changeups Friday night, continuing a pattern of tossing fewer changeups this season.
- It’s taken some time, but Indians Manager Terry Francona has proven to be the force behind Cleveland’s success.
- Kansas City doesn’t have an issue trading for an impending free agent starter.
