MLB trade rumors: Yankees shopping Ivan Nova

The right-hander could be moved before next Monday’s deadline.

After making their first major deadline move by trading closer Aroldis Chapman, the Yankees are considering selling more pieces. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Yanks are “pushing” Ivan Nova in trade talks recently.

Nova is not the first Yankees starter to be linked in trade rumors this summer, as Michael Pineda and Nathan Eovaldi are also said to be available on a weak market for starting pitchers. New York has not fully committed to a sale despite trading Chapman for four prospects Monday.

Nova, 29, has posted a 7-5 record and 4.65 ERA in 20 starts for the Yankees in his third straight rough season. He is a free agent after the season, so it would make sense for the Yankees, as potential sellers, to see what they could get for him.

Though Olney’s report did not link any teams to Nova, some potential fits include the Pirates (who have been in on Eovaldi), the Marlins, and the Rangers, who are looking across the board for starting pitching help. Nova’s track record and pending free agent status will limit his value, though the weak class of available starters will cause the Yankees to get at least something back for the righty.
