They traded for Aroldis Chapman and Mike Montgomery, but it doesn’t seem like the Cubs are done just yet. With the deadline just a few short days away, Chicago is viewing the deadline as an opportunity to shop for some long-term options.
One team that they could be looking at: the Tampa Bay Rays. With starters like Chris Archer, Jake Odorizzi and Matt Moore being floated around, these two teams may match up for a swap.
More from around the National League Central:
- Outfielder Adam Duvall has been more productive for the Reds than most thought. How should the Reds approach his success? Should they cash in and sell high, or hang on to the 26-year-old?
- With all the talks of selling, especially on players like catcher Jonathan Lucroy, the Brewers might be well served to call up Arizona about Shelby Miller, says Kyle Lesniewski of Brew Crew Ball.
- Aroldis Chapman is off the board, and there are still teams looking for a big-name reliever. Does that mean that the Pirates should shop around right-hander Mark Melancon?
- Closer Trevor Rosenthal has been moved to the disabled list by the Cardinals with shoulder and elbow issues.
