UPDATE — Kansas City placed Wade Davis on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor strain in his right arm, the club announced Sunday.

ORIGINAL — Royals closer Wade Davis is flying back to Kansas City to undergo an MRI on his right forearm, as reported by Ken Rosenthal. The Royals are currently in Texas, playing a series against the Rangers.

Davis was placed on the disabled list on Jul. 5 with forearm problems, but returned to the Royals two weeks ago. Davis has a 1.60 ERA and 21 saves in 35 appearances.

As the trade deadline draws closer, the Royals were looking to include Davis in a package deal with Ian Kennedy and the Dodgers were interested in acquiring Davis.

With many teams in need of a reliever or two, the injury news comes as a blow to the market. Davis will likely not be traded by the non-waiver trade deadline on Aug. 1.
