Padres ‘pushing’ to trade Derek Norris, Braves could consider McCann

San Diego is “pushing” to trade catcher Derek Norris in advance of Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline, according to Dennis Lin of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Jonathan Lucroy is thought to be the best available catching option, and after his decision to veto a trade to the Indians, other teams could pursue Lucroy instead of Norris.

Norris, 27, is having a down offensive year, batting .193/.253/.360 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs over 89 games. He is a career .238 hitter but isn’t arbitration eligible until next season and won’t be a free agent until 2019.

If the Brewers do lose Lucroy, Norris could be an affordable option for Milwaukee to turn to. The Astros and Rangers are also options, according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.

While Norris is expected to be moved, the Yankees don’t seem to be in a hurry to part with catcher Brian McCann. However, after trading Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, the Yankees appear to be selling.

Atlanta could be a team that considers McCann, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. However, Rosenthal adds the Braves don’t feel McCann is worth $17 million a season, so the Yankees would have to include cash in a deal with Atlanta.

The Braves don’t want to part with any player on their major league roster to add McCann, according to Rosenthal.

McCann, 32, is batting .235/.334/.430 with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs this season. He is under club control through 2018 and has a team option for 2019.
