The Rangers and Brewers are discussing a trade that would send catcher Jonathan Lucroy to Texas, according to a major-league source. Texas has established itself as a strong suitor for Lucroy after the catcher voided a deal that would have sent him to the Indians earlier in the day, though other teams remain involved.

Texas is also targeting reliever Jeremy Jeffress in talks with Milwaukee, according to a source, but have also discussed left-hander Will Smith in recent weeks. The Rangers may swing a deal for Lucroy and a reliever, or could just target Lucroy in a smaller trade.

The clubs were far apart in talks about Lucroy yesterday afternoon before Milwaukee agreed to acquire four prospects from Cleveland, though the price may have dropped as a result of the voided deal. Texas has emerged as one of the favorites for Lucroy at this point, with both the Indians and Mets reportedly out of the running.

Lucroy appears likely to be dealt before tomorrow’s trade deadline, and cannot block a trade to Texas if one is agreed upon. Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that prospects Luis Ortiz and Yohander Mendez are among the prospect names being discussed, and TR Sullivan adds that Joey Gallo is likely involved as well.
