The Rangers “took a hard look” at Twins starter Ervin Santana during his last start, according to Lavelle Neal of the Star-Tribune. Texas is known to be looking for starting help in advance of the trade deadline.

Santana, 33, is one of Minnesota’s many trade chips this summer, and is being considered by multiple teams who are looking for starting pitchers. Texas has lost starters Yu Darvish, Colby Lewis and Derek Holland to the disabled list in recent weeks, and could make a move for a starter in the near future.

Santana has not pitched well for the last place Twins this year, posting a 4.50 ERA, 6.4 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 15 starts.

Santana’s deal may complicate a potential trade, as he is owed roughly $35 million in guaranteed money through the end of the 2018 season. He is in just the second season of the 4-year, $55 million deal he signed with the Twins during the 2014 Winter Meetings.
