In order to make room for a returning Jonathan Papelbon, the Nationals decided to option Michael Taylor to Triple-A Syracuse. For now, that means Washington will go with Ben Revere as their everyday center-fielder. That may not last for wrong as Revere’s stats are worse than Taylor.
That’s where Trea Turner comes in. The Nationals have groomed Turner for this spot, having him recently start taking up center field. His speed, along with his ability to hit should allow him to be a good option for the top of the lineup.
More from around the National League East:
- After missing out on the All-Star game a year ago, Mets closer Jeruys Familia is getting the call to play in his first All-Star Game. He won’t be alone, as Y oenis Cespedes and Noah Syndergaard will be joining him.
- The Marlins have expressed strong interest in Cuban free agent Yuliesky Gurriel.
- Phillies general manager Matt Kelntak mentioned that he’s not that the Phillies will be very active at the trade deadline this year, a sharp contrast from a year ago.
- It hasn’t been easily for Freddie Freeman this year, but something has turned around for him as he has gone from slumping back to being the Braves best hitter.
