The Mets have placed right-hander Matt Harvey on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder discomfort, according to a club announcement. Harvey will undergo further examination to see if he has thoracic outlet syndrome.
Harvey has not been himself all season, posting a 4-10 record and 4.86 ERA in 17 starts to this point. Many have wondered if he was suffering from an injury due to his struggles, though this stint on the disabled list will be his first this season.
Harvey is the latest Mets starter to deal with a concerning arm issue, joining Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard, who both have bone spurs in their elbows. Zack Wheeler is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, though Jacob deGrom and Bartolo Colon appear fully healthy.
It’s unclear at this time whether the Mets’ injury concerns could force the club into the trade market for starters this summer, especially with the lack of available options and strong demand across the league. Harvey’s long-term prognosis, if negative, could force the Mets into exploring moves.
