UPDATE — The Mets are the favorite to land Jay Bruce.

ORIGINAL —- With about 15 hours left before the non-waiver trade deadline, one of the hottest names on the market is still Reds outfielder Jay Bruce. According to a major-league source, it appears as though Bruce will be dealt before the 4 p.m. deadline, though the possibility does exist that Cincinnati will hold onto him and try again to trade him this winter.

The Dodgers and Giants are two strong possibilities for Bruce, according to a source, though there are many teams involved. Bruce has been linked to the Mets, Rangers, Mariners, Orioles, Nationals and Blue Jays most prominently in recent days.

Los Angeles’ interest has been known for days, and a source close to Bruce indicated more than 48 hours ago that the Dodgers were the favorite as both 2- and 3-team trade scenarios were discussed. John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reported late Sunday night that the Giants are making a “late and strong push” on Bruce, whose market appears wide open as of now.

Bruce’s market is seen as a volatile one, with many teams jumping in and out over the course of the last few days. Bruce is no stranger to trade rumors, as he was almost dealt to the Mets at last year’s trade deadline and was notified of a trade to the Blue Jays during spring training before that deal fell apart due to a failed physical by an involved minor-leaguer.
