Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee sprain, according to the team.
This is not the first time Bautista has been on the DL this season, as he was last on it for a left big toe sprain in June and returned in late July.
Bautista has played 80 games this season, where he was hitting .222/.349/.444 with 15 home runs, 48 RBI, a .343 wOBA, and 114 wRC+.
The Blue Jays are currently tied with the Orioles for first place in the AL East. With Bautista being out and no current timetable for his return, the rest of the team would have to find a way to keep up with the Orioles in the standings or be relegated to a Wild Card spot.
Outfielder Junior Lake’s contract was selected from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Lake has appeared in 19 games for the Blue Jays this season and hit .206/.289/.382 in 38 plate appearances. In Buffalo, Lake was hitting .238/.323/.371.
