Some bad news for the Rockies today: Rookie shortstop Trevor Story has been placed on the disabled list with a torn UCL in his left thumb.
Thomas Harding of MLB.com reported that Story will be undergoing surgery on his thumb and expects to miss the rest of the season.
This comes as a huge blow to the Rockies as they are currently in contention for an NL Wild Card spot. Story has been one of the keys to the offense as home runs keep being hit from the bat.
Story has been hitting .272/.341/.567 this season with a league-leading 27 home runs. Story was called up this season to fill in for Jose Reyes, who was suspended for a domestic violence incident, and ended up taking over the shortstop role full-time after showing that he was more than capable of being a good hitter and fielder and not Jose Reyes.
Infielder Rafael Ynoa was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque. Ynoa is hitting .266/.330/.359 and last was in the Major Leagues in 2015 with Colorado.
