AL Central Notes: Castellanos to DL, Indians bullpen

The latest from around the AL Central.

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos left Detroit’s win over the Mets on Saturday with a hand fracture, according to Anthony Fenech of The Detroit Free Press.

Detroit is expecting him to be out for three to four weeks, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Castellanos hasn’t had as much success offensively of late, but he is still batting .286/.331/.500 with 18 home runs.

Although it seems the Tigers are not certain how long Castellanos will be sidelined, a disabled stint appears to be likely. Andrew Romine and Mike Aviles could play third base, and the Tigers could also call upon Casey McGehee.

However, McGehee is not on the club’s 40-man roster.

If Detroit remains competitive, the club could consider a trade for Danny Valencia, who is a candidate to be moved before the end of the month.

More from around the American League Central:

  • Even after acquiring Andrew Miller, the Indians have a chance to eliminate the common role of a closer.

  • Edinson Volquez hasn’t changed much, so don’t blame his struggles on regression or decreased ability.

  • One of the newest Twins, Hector Santiago, is one of the more intriguing Minnesota pitchers.
