NL East Notes: 3,000 hits, Braves impact

The latest news from around the National League East.

MLB: Miami Marlins at Colorado Rockies Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

After waiting for a long time, Ichiro Suzuki tallied his 3,000 hit on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies, become the 30th player in major league history to reach the mark.

That hit, a triple, made the 42-year-old the first player from Japan to log 3,000 career hits, and the team poured out of the dugout to congratulate him at third base for this accomplishment.

More from around the National League East:

  • This statement may come as a shock, but the Atlanta Braves are going to have a huge impact on the National League playoff race. A look at their remaining schedule has them matching up with teams that are still looking to fight their way into October baseball.
  • For the first time since trading him, the Phillies are preparing to face Chase Utley today.
  • A 1-0 victory over the Giants was a reminder of how good the Nationals can be.
  • Somehow, someway the Mets are contending in the National League playoff race. One reason could be because the rest of the league is playing down to their level.
