Last year, the Cubs run to the National League Champion Series started with a 19-9 run in the month of August. A year later, and it’s starting to have a very similar feel to it.
So far, the Cubs are 6-0 in the month of August and have two more days off over the course of the next two and a half weeks to keep them fresh and healthy. The players give a lot of credit to manager Joe Maddon for putting them in this position to succeed.
More from around the National League Central:
- The Reds have acquired players in deals during their rebuild that are closer to the big leagues than getting younger-ish players with higher ceilings. It might be time for them to change course.
- With the 2016 season not meaning a whole lot, Kyle Lesniewski of Brew Crew Ball is giving Brewers fans something to look forward to with his quick look at the 2017 roster.
- Pirates general manager Neal Huntington made it clear that the team is still going to monitor the waiver wire, in the hopes of adding talent to their active roster.
- Since acquiring Jonathan Broxton at the trade deadline last season, it hasn’t been the most success time for the 32-year-old in St. Louis. It could even be considered a huge failure.
