The Indians are now without their starting catcher as Yan Gomes is out for the rest of the season with a fractured wrist, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Cleveland is six games up in the AL Central, ahead of the Tigers. Off the bench, they have Roberto Perez, Chris Gimenez and Adam Moore available to catch.

Though they didn’t have control over the situation, in retrospect, Jonathan Lucroy vetoing the trade that would’ve sent him to Cleveland looks worse and worse for the team.

This season, Gomes was hitting .165/.198/.313 in 71 games, but is ranked highly defensively.

It seems likely that the Indians will clinch the division and playa postseason game, but how far they’ll go is yet to be determined. It is also not as though the Indians were without Gomes this season, as he was out with a separated shoulder injury for approximately two months.
