AL Central Notes: Chris Sale, Tigers rotation

The latest news from around the American League Central.

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Philadelphia Phillies Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox have one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Because of that, teams like to call them and try to trade for said pitcher, Chris Sale. So far, the White Sox have seemed hesitant on moving the southpaw.

Having an ace is crucial to succeeding in this game, yet the White Sox haven’t been able to win with Sale leading the way. Combine a very weak free agent market for starting pitching, with a relatively cheap contract, and now might be the perfect time for the White Sox to finally move Sale.

More from around the American League Central:

  • Justin Verlander is getting up there in age, and who knows how many solid years he has left in the tank. He’s not worried about the Tigers future though, saying that the Detroit rotation is in good hands with the likes of Michael Fulmer, Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris.
  • Twins starter Trevor May has had a lingering back issue, and there is finally a definitive answer. The right-hander has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back.
  • Edinson Volquez’s current contract has a mutual option for the 2017 season. He has said that he is open to a reunion with the team.
  • Indians rookie Adam Plutko almost missed his call to the big leagues. Until his wife saved the day.
