Fernandez was one of three people killed in the crash, which took place in the Government Cut off Miami Beach. Authorities found the 30-foot boat upside down and crashed into a jetty.
Fernandez, who broke into the majors with the Marlins in 2013, was considered one of the game’s brightest stars. A 2-time All-Star, Fernandez was a fan favorite in Miami after defecting from Cuba in 2008 and attending high school in Florida.
The Marlins postponed their game against the Braves today in wake of the news.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Fernandez and his family this morning.
